James McDermott completed his Physiotherapy degree in 2013 from St George’s University in London, United Kingdom. He has since gained a wealth of experience working within the public, private and the professional sports sectors. James has regularly attended various sporting events offering his skills in preventative and acute management both pitch-side and within sporting academies. He continuously strives to improve his clinical knowledge and has completed further training in clinical pilates, dry needling, shockwave therapy and gait scanning. With a passion for golf and understanding the frustrations behind the golf swing, he recently became a qualified Titleist Performance Institute practitioner and is trained in identifying how the body functions during the golf swing by recognizing certain characteristics and physical limitations. All this is with the goal of improving player performance.
James’ experience allows him to treat a wide range of clients, including those suffering from acute complaints to the more complex post-operative conditions, in addition to the amateur/high-level athlete. He encompasses a client-focused approach to treatment, utilizes his skills in manual therapy, and promotes Pilates-based rehab and exercise prescription. He enjoys a focus on building strength and stability through dynamic and calisthenic movements, which assist in injury prevention and progression.
James commits his spare time to climbing and mountaineering training and has ascended a variety of mountains throughout the Alps. This has allowed him a full awareness of the dedication needed to achieve personal goals, the frustrations of injuries affecting such achievements and therefore the importance of preventative treatment and rehabilitation. As a recent father to an amazing daughter, he is looking forward to having a new hiking buddy by his side to experience the delights British Columbia has to offer.
